Why Does a Downloaded Instagram Reel Have No Audio?
If a downloaded Reel has no sound, start with the saved MP4, not just the Instagram preview. A muted player, an incompatible audio track and a file with no audio track need different fixes. Sound working on Instagram does not guarantee that the available download includes the same audio.

Check sound in three places
Do these checks before requesting the Reel again. Browser previews may start muted, and Bluetooth headphones can receive sound even when you expect it from the phone’s speaker.
- Unmute the ig.tools preview and raise media volume. Check whether headphones or another Bluetooth device are connected.
- Open the downloaded MP4 in your device’s video player. Test another video to confirm that the device can play sound.
- Open the same Reel on Instagram and unmute it. Compare that playback with the saved MP4, not just with the ig.tools preview.
Match the symptom to the next step
A silent preview alone is not evidence that audio is missing from the download.
- The preview is silent, but the saved MP4 has sound
- Unmute the preview. The download already contains playable sound, so you do not need to download it again.
- The MP4 plays with sound in one player but not another
- Use the player that works or check the other player’s settings and format support. This is different from a missing audio track.
- Instagram has sound, but the saved MP4 is silent in different players
- Resolve the link again once in ig.tools, save the current MP4 and test it again. Instagram playback and the downloadable file can be different versions.
- The original Reel is also silent on Instagram
- There may be no sound in the upload, or sound may be unavailable in your playback context. The downloader cannot create missing audio.
What an audio track check tells you
When ig.tools can inspect the downloaded MP4, an audio track result describes that file. A detected track does not guarantee audible music: a track can contain silence or fail to play in a particular player. If the check is unavailable, that is not proof that the file has no audio.
A file with no audio track tells us sound is absent from that file. It does not prove that Instagram muted it for copyright reasons, and it does not prove that the creator uploaded a silent video. Avoid treating the audio status as a diagnosis of music rights.
Why Instagram playback and a download can differ
Instagram may serve separate video and audio streams for its player, while an available MP4 contains only video. Music availability can also differ by region or request context. These are possible explanations, not causes that can be confirmed from a silent MP4 alone.
ig.tools saves the available video; it does not attach replacement music or guarantee recovery of an unavailable soundtrack. MP3 conversion also requires readable audio in its source file, so converting a silent video is not a way to recover missing music.
Refresh once, then keep the version that works
Return to the Instagram Reels Downloader, resolve the link again and download the current MP4 once. If it remains silent across players, repeated rapid retries are unlikely to help. If you need the original soundtrack, ask the creator for a copy you are allowed to use.
